As of today you are now able to gather necrotic runes and get shiny new purples to fight the undead.. and it is nice here is a link to the explanation and the shiny new gear.

Now here is the real skinny on how to really work the game. When a area comes under attack a flying necropolis appears over the area, and crystals appear in the area, on your map you will see a purple skull.
Around each cystal (which you can find by following the trails of purple flying energy from the floating necropolis) mobs will spawn, there are three types of mobs and they all have a chance of dropping a necrotic rune which can be used to buy nice gear and other shiny items. These mobs when they die send a ghostly stream into the crystal taking 15 life away from it. The crystal has 3048 life to start with, when it runs out of life the real fun starts.
As soon as the crystal dies, 4 npcs appear around the crystal. they will talk to you and offer the chance to give him 8 necrotic runes to stop his ritual. doing so spawns an elite shadow mob that is bound to the person who gave the 8 runes. when he dies he drops 30 necrotic runes and possible an epic piece of armor like the ones above.
So here is how to do it. get a team of four. one plate wearer, one mail, one leather and one cloth. role doesnt matter. the mob around each crystal will tank and dps for you. all you have to do is be the frst to talk to the npc.
the npc's appear in the outer ring in the four small circles at North, South, East, and West. position each person in your group next to one of the circles when the crystal is about to die. each of you try to start the event with your npc. remember each of you will need 8 runes to start this. if your lucky maybe you guys get all four npcs, maybe none.
I did this for about an hour, and was able to start the event 7 times?, I got 2 epic pieces of armor and 120 runes when I was done.
I recommend that the person who starts the event should get the runes that drop (all 30 come together) and the armor goes to whoever can use. the person who started lost 8 runes and will need to replace to summon again, so should get the 30 runes, unless someone else in party has none and they have more then 8.
