so far im really liking it. and it has alot of promise. i am running into a few problems. ive noticed that when i open a new tab, or open a link in a new tab, or even select one of the pages on the new tab page, it seems to hang and freeze for a second or 2, esp if im doing something else in another tab. this is especially apparant when i go to open the super-15-tab-morning-comics-n-stuff bookmark folder. it hangs for quite a while (in fact this was one of the very first things i tried when i switched, and thought i had already crashed the whole thing =) also, it doesnt do the autoscroll thing when you click on my wheel to rapidly ascend or decend long pages. it is, however, lightning fast once started and going. faster even than Firefox ever was. i liked how it imported ALL my settings from FF, even saved passwords and such. with some decent polish it could be great.

I've started using it now, thanks to Monev, and I find it very nice. At bit fewer customization options available than I'm used to. I also would love to see some addons become available (delicious bookmarks for one). I know it's beta, and it's really good for beta, but I read an interesting article about Acid3 compliance which said, essentially, that compared to browswers which are in production it is very good, but compared to the other browsers in beta it is lacking (I'll dig up the link for anyone who cares to read the whole article). It also takes some getting used to because I'm used to new tabs opening after the last tab, not next to your current tab. I find that approach a little... meh. When tabs open at the end, yes they are typically further from the tab that I used to open the new one, but I know exactly where to go to to look for them. Like I said, this will take some getting used to. On the whole I find it very fast and responsive. I haven't tried to open many tabs at once, but I can imagine that it would be really slow because the browser has to request threads and memory space for each new tab and if you are wailing at the CPU for that much attention it's gonna take some time. I LOVE the minimalist approach that they have taken, particularly with the browser window itself and the lack of a status bar. Everything fits in two lines and boom, done. Ok, I've rambled enough. -bera

Just for interest's sake, I checked the Task Manager-reported memory footprint for Opera, IE, Firefox, and Chrome with the same pages up. Here are my results: With "about:blank": With just GMail: With a lot of windows open (exact same in all 3) Admittedly, I basically opened all the Google-related services from GMail each in its own tab. Sure is memory efficient. I did run across this in another forum, though. Very interesting. My company has just issued a statement that no company information is to be posted or viewed using Chrome. It is not to be installed on any company computers.Due to this clause from the EULA: 11. Content licence from you 11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content, you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services. 11.2 You agree that this licence includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organisations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services. 11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this licence shall permit Google to take these actions. 11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above licence.
Our legal department has siad the this basically gives Google a license to use anything you upload/post using chrome.

From my testing so far, it seems awfully efficient, but while I'm generally a fan of the minimalist approach and a big fan of Google, I don't think that a lot of the world is ready for this level of it just yet. Certainly not the power-user community anyway. This does however seem like a great straightforward browser to install on your less tech-savvy aunt's PC. Regarding the EULA, I'm shocked as heck at that. Not only is it a little shady but it's very un-Google-like. I have to believe that the wording allows for more than was intended, or someone in legal slipped this one in. Either way I can't imagine it will last long in it's current form. You can still install it without an EULA agreement by coming in straight from the source, but that's far more trouble than the average user needs. From an architecture standpoint, their reimagining of the entire browser makeup seems very interesting, and potentially very effective. I haven't given it enough of a workout yet to really force a crash, but if they deliver what they say they can, this is certainly a change for the better which could affect many other browsers besides just Chrome. I applaud their intent to further the community as a whole instead of just themselves. Could this change browsing as we know it? Perhaps in time. Will this be a major competitor against FF or IE? I don't see it happening anytime soon unless it gets some notable tweaks during it's beta process (which as we know with Google could last a decade or so). :)
